From day one after saying “YES!” I knew I wanted to plan a wedding that truly embodied Ryan and I as individuals and as a couple. I love a good DIY project and their were so many opportunities throughout the process where I could really show “us” and still use my creative side. Many brides are happy to dish out the wedding duties to friends, family, and professionals - and don’t get me wrong there were definitely times that I asked for help! But the Virgo in me wanted all of the ever-important details to all come together in a cohesive way.
I spent a lot of the summer when we weren’t at festivals or on vacation planning every detail meticulously. I customized all of the wedding stationery, signage, calligraphy, the wedding website, and a whole lot more! It was definitely super important to both of us to showcase the beautiful venue we chose in the mountains of the place we call home so we wanted everything to be simple and let the venue speak for itself. For everything that I didn’t think I could do on my own or with a bit of help from Ryan, our families and friends, we decided to use local Vermont vendors.
I found an amazing photographer local to the Burlington area named Jacquelyn Potter via Instagram (gotta love social media!) and Ryan and I really loved her style. The way she captured the beauty of the surroundings and the moments of pure love and joy between the bride and groom and their guests at the weddings she shot in the past was exactly what we both envisioned when thinking of how we wanted to remember our day. Take a look!
When we first came across The Inn at the Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield, Vermont we immediately fell in love. The barn, which was originally built in the 1800s and later restored, sits on a picturesque 80 plus acres. The property operated as a working dairy farm until the 1970s and many original pieces from the farm are still intact. How can you get more Vermont than that?!
I found my gown at Lovely Bride in New York City. It really felt like it was made for me and my personality!
I even had the flowers in my bouquet and throughout the venue match the florals on our invitations! Even our cake had beautiful fresh flowers from Heavenscent Floral Art!
This was the part of the day that Ryan and I really got to show off who we are as individuals and as a couple. Our family walked down the aisle to Divided Sky by Phish and my father escorted me down the aisle to a song that Ryan composed for me called Forevers. Ryan’s brother Brendan officiated the ceremony and read a beautiful passage from Les Miserables, Ryan’s favorite novel. We wrote our vows together and included many of our inside jokes, making it easy to smile and laugh as we said them rather than be nervous. It was truly beautiful.
We both definitely have a sweet tooth and couldn’t choose just ONE dessert! Sweet Simone’s provided an amazing array of treats and the most delicious cake I’ve ever tasted!
What was really the most important to us though was to have our family and friends close as we said “I DO” and began a new life together. Many of my family members stayed on the property while Ryan’s stayed just down the road. We both had guests travel from halfway across the world to be there to celebrate with us, which was truly to special for us both.
Some of our favorite memories of the day are when we were sitting at our table or standing on the outskirts of the barn watching everyone have the best time dancing to our favorite band, the Kitchen Dwellers, and sharing little moments!
Thank you to everyone who made the trip to make it one of the most special days we will ever have in our lives.
xoxo. Alexandra
