It’s so crazy to think that summer is almost over. The past three weeks have FLOWN BY! After our move we took a week off in Canada and headed back to Ryan’s family cottage on Lake Weslemkoon. The last time we went it was just us and Ryan’s dad for a few days (you may remember from my post!), but this time we were joined by a few more family members. We camped on the property and got to spend a few nights up late watching the Perseid meteor shower! It was absolutely beautiful and so worth the lack of sleep! We also got to hike to the Indian Potholes, which I have been wanting to do for years!
We were supposed to come back to Vermont and immediately pack for Phish’s Curveball which we had been waiting for basically all summer. Unfortunately, the festival was cancelled due to water contamination but luckily we had not left on the seven hour drive yet. I’m honestly still pretty devastated about it and still haven’t found the words to describe how I felt as I stood in the Verizon store and got the call that the weekend I had been so excited for was not happening. After the initial shock settled, Ryan got a call to play an infused dinner party at The Salt Ash Inn in Killington, VT with a bunch of our other musician friends and it definitely took the immediate depression away. There’s nothing better than some live music and an infused taco bar with brownies for dessert! Now that it’s been a few days I’m still sad when I think about what could have been .... but at least I have 30,000 phellow phans feeling the same way ❤️
We’ve pretty much been laying low since then, doing home renovations, cooking and exploring the surrounding towns. We found that our favorite place to go during our time off is Lake Elmore. It is absolutely beautiful and they offer so many different water activities. We spent the day there this past weekend and stayed until sunset. I really wish we got to find this place before summer was nearly over, but I'm sure it will be equally as breathtaking in the fall! Plus, now that I started work (first day of school was Monday WOW!), our free time will be pretty limited so it is good that we have our key relaxing spots down!
Next week we head to Aruba to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary before Ryan is off on tour for a month! It's definitely going to be strange to be in this big house all alone but at least I will have company from Oscar and a TON of stuff to get done! I can’t wait to share my experiences with you all!
Has anyone been to Aruba? If you have any recommendations be sure to send them our way! This is Ryan's first time but I have been almost every year of my life since growing up. I can't wait to show him One Happy Island!
xoxo. Alexandra
