Ryan and I laugh all the time that we lived in Stowe for a whole year when we first started dating, but never actually explored Stowe! We ate at the same restaurants, went out to the same bars, swam at the same swimming holes and hiked the same hikes without really knowing much variety. Now that we are back we are finally getting to visit all of the special areas in our “new” hometown that we never have. One of the things I love most about this town is that there are so many local businesses to support. We spent the day driving between Stowe and Richmond doing all of the “fall” activities we could. For our first stop we went to Cold Hollow Cider Mill for what WE believe is the best cider in the state (if you have a cider you love please let us know!!! We would love to try it!) and took a tour of the bakery, general store and grounds. It was so interesting to learn that they make their cider with the traditional rack and cloth press that was built in the 1920s! Their vintage mill is stocked to the brim with Vermont made specialty food and products - perhaps the most delicious one of those being the Cider Donuts!
After enjoying way too much of our favorite (non-alcoholic) beverage and yummy food we headed on a hunt for pumpkins! Since it was later in the day we decided to just pull over any time we saw a pumpkin and it was so worth it! We ended up heading to Conant’s Sweet Corn in Richmond, which has been around since the 1850s. Not only do they grow delicious yellow and white corn throughout the year, but they also reopen in the fall to sell a variety of pumpkins, squash and fall decorations.
Just a bit further down the road was Red Barn Gardens in Williston. Not only did the property have beautiful greenhouses and gardens, but they also had some of the most interesting looking pumpkins I have ever seen! Check out these “wart pumpkins” we found - they are definitely perfectly creepy for Halloween!
It was such a great treat to be able to get some Vermont fun in before Ryan’s tour. Luckily, this tour I’ll be able to head out and visit him for Twiddle’s Halloween weekend shows at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC with the Bumpin Uglies! I’m excited to show you guys what we will be dressed up as this year! What are some things you love to do with your significant other? Even better... if you have a couples Halloween costume please share it!!! xoxo. Alexandra
